"Jijuka" means to "come out of ignorance". There were many factors contributing to the genocide in Rwanda, but one factor allowing so many civilians to be involved in such atrocious acts of murder was their lack of education - their ignorance. The majority of adult Rwandans (70%) were illiterate and had no education or knowledge of the world to counter the propaganda of their leaders at the time.
In Kinyarwanda, "Illiteracy" and "Ignorance" are the same word. Ignorance is a killer and without knowledge the people will perish.
Jijuka Press believes that teaching adults to read is one small way of reducing ignorance.
We are raising funds by producing popular publications in Western countries, to fund the production of interesting literature in Kinyarwanda and programmes for adult and child literacy education.

Book Printing
Have you written a book, but do not know how to publish or market it?
We have been through this process and decided to set up our own Publishing House due to the difficulties. As a result we are in a position to offer publishing services for anyone wishing to see their book in print.
If you would like to see you work in print, just to see how it would look before pursuing it further, we can print one to fifty copies in soft back digest (12.95 x 19.70 cm) at reasonable rates.
Contact us at jijukapress@googlemail.com for further details.
